From 20 June 2025, NZ Animal Evaluation (NZAEL) will update the genetic base cow from a 2005 to a 2015 animal, aligning with international best

Last December, New Zealand Animal Evaluation Limited (NZAEL) deployed a major upgrade of its evaluation processes, models, and genetic evaluation software as part of its ongoing programme of enhancements. The changes brought better accuracy in genetic evaluations, allowing farmers to make better breeding decisions

The future opportunity for New Zealand dairy farmers to breed more climate friendly cows could become reality after trials find a possible link between a bulls’ genetics and the amount of methane they produce.

LIC has been developing a modelling system that can be used to quantify emissions and excretion, the result is their HoofPrint® index

LIC reproduction scientist Lorna McNaughton, looks at the importance of low- methane bulls as we move towards reducing emissions.

LIC has released its new Single Step Animal Model (SSAM) which uses animal genomic information in a more efficient way.
