Frequently Asked Questions
Will the calves be smaller?
SGL Compact® calves are comparable in size to an average crossbred calf of the same breed mix and gestation length and should be as healthy and vigorous as other calves at birth.
Can I keep the calves as dairy replacements?
No. SGL Compact ® progeny are not suitable for use as dairy replacements. The product was developed specifically for short gestation length, not for breeding dairy replacement heifers.
Does SGL Compact® affect conception rates?
No, the semen itself does not. Cow factors are the main consideration, as SGL Compact® is often used in later-calving or lower-fertility cows. Conception results should be interpreted in the context of the cow group selected.
Do I need to change my management?
Yes. Because cows will be calving earlier, drying-off dates, dry cow therapy programs and feed budgets should be planned accordingly.
